Community Employment Services

North Valley Services (NVS) has been a community leader providing quality services to adults with disabilities since 1967, developing a strong and lasting community presence and partnership with employers, service clubs and funding sources to create employment opportunities and further strengthen our community’s workforce. 

NVS has played a pivotal role identifying community employment opportunities, trends, and resources for individuals with disabilities through its Community Employment Services. NVS Job developers, coaches, and employment specialists provide individualized vocational services with ongoing support and training that encourages self-discovery of interests/preferences, abilities, and needs, that lead to great job matches with positive and successful employment outcomes.

North Valley Services (NVS) works closely with Far Northern Regional Center and/or the Department of Rehabilitation to coordinate services and resources for individualized person-centered planning to make informed choices and meet the individual’s realistic employment goals, expectations, and self-sufficiency.

 

Congratulations to Briana for finding employment at Marshalls in Red Bluff! Briana came to North Valley Services upon a referral from the Department of Rehabilitation. She participated in a Situational Assessment and then Job Development. Her hard work paid off, and we are proud of her achievements.

Situational Assessment

A Situational Assessment is a service designed to discover your strengths, barriers, and interests as they pertain to employment. You will be working alongside an Employment Specialist in a variety of local worksites while earning a paycheck.

PVSA

Quite often the small details make all the difference. Whether you are looking to improve your chances of securing employment or striving to excel in your current position; Personal, Vocational & Social Adjustment services may be for you! Qualified consumers will be paired with an Employment Specialist to work together on improving identified areas. Through PVSA services we can assist in obtaining a driving permit from the DMV or work-related certificates; such as a Food Handler’s Certificate. PVSA services give the consumer the ability to make improvements in a variety of areas including; Grooming/Hygiene, Communication, Functional Living and Mobility Training, Advocacy Training, Job Readiness and Job Retention Training, all with the focus on making them the most-desirable job candidate possible.

Work Adjustment

After completing a Situational Assessment, consumers may qualify to participate in Work Adjustment services. This program seeks to build the strengths of the participant while also addressing barriers identified during the Situational Assessment. This is a longer trial work period (120+ hours) to be completed with the cooperation of a local business or worksite. The consumer and Employment Specialist will work cooperatively to focus on the objectives and improve overall work readiness, all while gaining valuable work experience.

Job Development

For the qualified consumer Job Development services assist in securing employment. Our Job Developer will work to get to know you, your needs, interests, and goals in hopes of finding the perfect job for you. NVS will help identify those goals and vocational areas of interest and keep the consumer informed of job openings. Assistance can be provided with resume writing and developing a cover letter, filling out applications both in-person and online, discovering new job postings and help with job-hunt strategies. Whatever your vocational goal may be come see what our highly-skilled Job Developer can do for you!

Short-Term Support

Upon securing employment our consumers may qualify to receive short-term support and job coaching services. With consent of your new employer one of our specially-trained Employment Specialists work alongside you while you develop new job skills and intervene on your behalf when appropriate. The Employment Specialist will evaluate and identify any accommodations you may need, including special equipment, altering the workplace routine or aiding in interactions with co-workers to help maintain employment and maximize your productivity. As you become more confident and capable in your new position the level of support provided will gradually fade enabling you to become as independent as possible. 

Paid Internship Program

Consumers that receive Far Northern Regional Center services may qualify for their Paid Internship Program. In this program North Valley Services partners with an employer in the community to offer a temporary position coupled with job coaching to increase vocational skills and abilities of consumers. Goals of this program include the acquisition of experience and skills for future paid employment, or the internship itself to lead to a full or part time paid employment in the same job.

Courtesy Follow-Along Services

After your new period of short-term support has ended North Valley Services will implement courtesy follow-along services based on need. Courtesy follow-along services are designed to assist you when a need arises and help you achieve your long-term employment goals. These consist of a combination of worksite visits and phone communication to ensure you have the supports in place to remain successful.

Job Club

Job Club is a service provided by North Valley Services designed to integrate community employers with our job-seeking clients.  Here, our clients are presented with inside information, interview tips, and pathways to find employment in a wide variety of fields to choose from. Additionally, they learn pre-requisite skills and tips to help them achieve their vocational goals.
